International student funding
Living costs 2012-2013
Different students spend very different amounts of money while at University - depending on how long they stay for in Loughborough each year, the type of accommodation they choose and the type of lifestyle they have.
We have done our best on these pages to provide a realistic, safe budget for students to use when planning their studies. Separate budgets are given for:
- Undergraduate students - based on 39 weeks in the UK
- Postgraduate students - based on 50 weeks in the UK
Undergraduate students – based on 39 weeks in UK
Loughborough is not an expensive town to live in by UK standards. However, students and their sponsors must budget appropriately for their time in the UK and should allow approximately £700 – £950 per month for the duration of their studies. This amount should be sufficient to cover all major living expenses, including accommodation, food, clothing, books and local travel, but excluding fees. Please note, however, that the totals will vary according to your chosen accommodation and your dietary, clothing, and other needs. In particular, the costs will vary depending on whether you choose catered or self-catered accommodation
Below is an approximate breakdown of likely costs for single students, this is for a student in self-catered accommodation, but you will find that costs for catered accommodation will be within a similar range to these totals. You should, however, consider putting together your own specific budget, based on your choices.
Please also note that prices for Halls of Residence have not yet been set for 2012-2013, so the figures quoted are estimates. You are advised to check the Student Accommodation Services website for updated accommodation costs. For each hall, click on ‘Accommodation Packages Available’.
