Siân Williams
Siân Williams is the foundation programme manager.
Siân began her life in Liverpool, moving to Wales as a youngster and started her life in Loughborough many many years ago when she joined the Chemistry department at Loughborough University of Technology (as it was then).
She owes her love of Chemistry and communicating science to her dedicated Science teacher Mrs Owen who got her through her O and A levels. Siân couldn’t escape Loughborough and continued her studies with the amazing Professor Frank Wilkinson obtaining her PhD in photochemistry (aka “playing” with lasers) in 1996. During her PhD she started her involvement in science communication and trying to inspire youngsters (and anyone who’d listen to her ramble on) about the joys of science.
She spent a number of years as a researcher and lecturer in the Chemistry department at Loughborough University. In 2011 she took on the role of foundation manager and outreach coordinator for Science which was the perfect combination for her interests.
Over the years her outreach expanded to cover sports science and engineering alongside science.
The exciting developments and expansion of the foundation programme in 2016 saw her take on the management of the foundation programme full time. She is responsible for admissions to the foundation programme, pastoral care and also teaches on the Chemistry modules.
In her spare time Siân enjoys travelling, camping, walking, DIY and spending time with her two crazy kids
