Laughter Club

About this event

Try something new and join the University Chaplaincy for their monthly Laughter Club. Combining playfulness, laughter, and breathing for pleasure and health, laughter yoga provides a serotonin boost to help you feel good for the rest of the day.

Laughter yoga was started in Mumbai, India in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria. He knew that the body produces feel-good hormones like endorphins when we laugh. He realised the body can’t tell the difference if we laugh because something is funny or because we just laugh. He combined the laughter with pranayama (deep breathing).

The Laughter Club sessions are as follows:

  • Thursday 16 May
  • Thursday 20 June
  • Thursday 11 July

There are 12 spaces per session. You are welcome to book onto multiple sessions.

You're advised to bring some water with you, wear comfortable clothing and bring something that can go on the floor to lie your head on (small pillow, rolled up jumper, yoga mat etc).

Please note: this is aerobic exercise so it’s not recommended for anyone with uncontrolled heart disease or epilepsy, incontinence, hernia, recent abdominal surgery.

After booking you will receive a calendar invitation from the Chaplaincy securing your place. Should the sessions be oversubscribed, you will be added to a waiting list.
