Loughborough staff member to compete at 2024 European Trail Orienteering Championships

Computer Science Professor Iain Phillips will travel to Turku, Finland next week to compete for Great Britain at the Championships in May.

Trial Orienteering is an inclusive sport focused on speed of thinking, rather than movement. It concentrates on map reading skills and accurate terrain interpretation.  The sport is designed with inclusivity in mind and allows fair competition regardless of physical disability or ability.

Iain competes in the TempO discipline which has one single class, regardless of gender, physical ability and age.

Iain runs for Leicestershire Orienteering Club and represented Great Britain at the World Trail Orienteering Championships in 2022 and the Europeans in 2022 and 2024.

For some of the athletes’ aspirations for the championships, including Iain, see the British Orienteering site.
