Pam Quick

6 July 1955 - 32 February 2026

Pamela's sister, Jan, has shared an obituary.

After leaving school, Pam fulfilled a long-held ambition to qualify as a State Registered Nurse, training at Frenchay in Bristol. She went on to become a Midwife, then District Midwife in her home County of Hampshire. Afterwards, as a mature and full-time student she pursued a place at Loughborough University from 1986-1989, reading Human Biology, in order to teach.

After her degree at Loughborough, Pam did some research work at the University. She then made the move to Hull to become a lecturer at Hull College in the Health Studies Department. She became a firm favourite with the students, especially those who struggled. Throughout this period she maintained her midwifery skills by working on the local Maternity Wards during the holidays.

In 2001 Pam suffered a fall and as a result a significant paralysis on her right side, which meant she needed to use crutches and a wheelchair. This never deterred Pam and once she had a motobility vehicle there was no holding her back from travelling far and wide in the UK and Channel Islands.

In 2012 Pam was entrusted with a Canine Partner, Alucia, a beautiful and gentle chocolate Labrador who supported Pam around the house and on all expeditions. As you may imagine Alucia lit up her life.

With many friends from various backgrounds and abilities Pam reached out to give advice on services available to folk in a similar situation and was always available for a good chat.

Alucia retired in June 2022, was adopted by friends of Pam and is now living her best life. A very short time later Pam was introduced to her new companion, Crumpet, a yellow Labrador with boundless enthusiasm and a very cheeky personality. They were inseparable.

Sadly Pam’s continuing ill health left her unable to shake the pneumonia which contributed to her death on 23 February 2026.
