Professor Tony Marmont

1930-2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Professor Tony Marmont. He passed a few days short of his 94th birthday.

Professor Marmont was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (DTech) from Loughborough University in 1998.

He was passionate about sustainability and renewable energy due to his concern from the pollution in the atmosphere. He continuously came up with inventions that provided cheaper and more sustainable solutions. One of the many examples was creating petrol by extracting carbon dioxide from air and mixing it with hydrogen. His contributions have always been revolutionary and groundbreaking – something for which he will be fondly remembered.

Professor Marmont was awarded The Energy Medal for Lifetime Achievement for his constant support in campaigning sustainable development. He also very generously provided investments to kick-start energy research in the Loughborough Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST). He was a Visiting Professor at CREST.

Outside of the energy sector, Tony joined the family business E Carter and Co Ltd, Mineral Water Manufacturers. The company grew from a local East Midlands soft drinks manufacturer to the largest privately owned company in its sector, through product innovation and the institution of a new, fully automated, production, warehousing and distribution facility at Kegworth.

He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and co-workers alike.
