Alumnus launches video game

Asim Yaqoob graduated from the University in 2013 with a BEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He went on to pursue his career and took a position at the UK’s national science laboratories, including the national particle accelerator and the Royal Observatory Edinburgh where he worked in astronomy on space telescopes.

Asim has always loved video game development, and has been doing it for a few years. He has now combined his passion for video games with astronomy to create a space-based mobile arcade game called –AstraBlast, which is available on iOS and Android.

Asim said:

“Video games to me are the ultimate intersection of engineering with the arts. It's been a dream of mine to create and release my own game and I started the journey in 2021 with AstraBlast.”

Asim started to teach himself game development as a hobby in his spare time. He said, “It quickly grew into a labour of love and it's been one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done!”

He plans to continue developing the game with new content and ongoing updates.

Congratulations Asim and well done!
