Alumna Emma Whitty’s crafty career transformation

Emma Whitty graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Human Psychology in 1997.

She began her career in Human Resources in November 1997 at Pennine Healthcare, a family-run company making medical devices. Despite a busy role in a small HR team for 350 employees, she loved the dynamic nature of her job. After 18 years, she chose voluntary redundancy and pursued her passion for crafting.

She started selling her handmade items at craft fairs with mixed success. She opened an Etsy shop in December 2021. Her shop offers customisable items like cards, pictures, mini bottles, tea lights, key rings, and jewellery.

Now she spends her afternoons creating and exploring new ideas, grateful for the unexpected journey that led her from HR to building a craft business.
