Recent graduate Jamie Clark has landed a role as Sustainable Development Goals Intern in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) at the United Nations (UN). He is headed to New York very soon and is excited for his new adventure.

Jamie graduated in the summer with a degree in Psychology with Criminology. He has his own business and will continue to run that part-time alongside his new role.

Through the internship, Jamie will be supporting the promotion and implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role will involve organising events and training, conducting research, drafting reports, and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders.

He will also contribute to planning for key conferences, such as the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as well as future UN Ocean and Water Conferences.

Jamie utilised his network and connections in the Loughborough family to get an introduction to the UN. He said:

“I’m incredibly grateful to have secured this role at the UN through the support and encouragement of Professor Ed Brown from Loughborough University and Martin Niemetz from UN DESA.

“It all started when I reached out to Professor Ed Brown after discovering his involvement with the UN following reading a news article published by the University highlighting his attendance at the Global Expert Group Meeting at the UN Headquarters. After contacting Ed, he generously took the time to meet with me, recognised my potential, and kindly connected me with Martin Niemetz, a Sustainable Development Expert at UN DESA.

He added:

“I am deeply grateful for Ed and Martin's invaluable support in helping make this opportunity a reality. Their time, guidance, and belief in me have truly meant the world, and I will always be indebted for their generosity. I’m eager to begin this incredible opportunity, contribute meaningfully, and demonstrate that their trust in me was well-placed.”

Jamie is a documentary filmmaker at Jamie Clark Productions, collaborating with NGOs, IGOs, and charities to tackle social and global challenges.

During his time at Loughborough, he engaged with LUInc., which has helped in the launch of his business:

“My journey with LUInc. has already been invaluable, guiding me in sharpening my business strategy, increasing traction, and refining my brand's direction.”

If you are based in New York and would like to connect with Jamie and support him on his new venture in the States, get in touch, he’d love to connect.
