Gohar Shah (Business, Economics and Finance BSc, 2018 and Finance and Investment MSc, 2019) has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the rebranded Multan Sultans; the most expensive franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), one of the most prestigious cricket leagues in the world.

Gohar, a former first-class cricketer and a key co-investor in the purchasing group, brings a unique blend of on-field cricket expertise and strong business acumen to the franchise.

Reflecting on his journey, Gohar credits Loughborough as a turning point in his career:

“Loughborough holds such a dear place in my heart. The cricket programme is amazing, and I was destined to be a pro-cricketer. Unfortunately, during my third year at Loughborough, I broke my back, and the dream was over. Then Brexit happened and I couldn’t get a job. I was accepted onto Loughborough’s MSc Finance and Investment course after my undergrad. That is where I learnt how to invest. I owe my ownership of the Multan Sultans to that course, and to Loughborough.”

His appointment follows a turbulent period for the franchise, which – under its previous identity as the Sialkot Stallionz – faced potential relocation to Rawalpindi and even the prospect of exiting the PSL after eight seasons. Stability has now been restored under new ownership, with Gohar and CD Ventures securing a 98% stake and committing to the team’s future.

PSL CEO Salman Naseer highlighted Gohar’s decisive leadership:

“The first thing Gohar did upon assuming the role of CEO was apply to the PCB. He agreed to pay the one-time franchise fee to change the name, and now this team will be known as Multan Sultans.”

For Gohar, the decision was deeply personal:

“I want my region to be represented, which is Multan, and South Punjab. It was very important to me that Multan stayed in the PSL and will continue to stay in the future.”

Looking ahead, Gohar is introducing an ambitious new playing philosophy: ‘Total Cricket’, inspired by high-intensity, all-round performance. The approach emphasises fearlessness, determination, and aggressive play. He added:

“In addition to skill, we’ll bring a mindset of fearlessness and intent. Those are qualities I developed at Loughborough.”

Off the field, the franchise is also expanding its global profile. Gohar is currently working with a local production team on a behind-the-scenes docuseries, set for national release this summer and an international rollout the following year.

The PSL season begins this week, with Multan Sultans facing Islamabad United in their opening fixture on 28 May 2026.

Congratulations Gohar, and good luck in the season ahead!
