Student Team - Photographer

Join the LU Arts Student Team for 2024/25 as a photographer and help document our wide-ranging programme of events.

We have a Student Team to help us deliver our programme of arts events and activities each year. Student team members are all employed on a casual basis and roles include Tech Support and Events Assistant as well as Photographer. For 2024/25, we are recruiting for an additional Student Photographer.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop key skills and gain experience in event photography and working for an arts organisation.

You can find out more about the role below. If you have any questions about this role then please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk.

What will I do?

You will attend and document LU Arts events and occasionally events organised by other parts of the University. Events will usually take place on the Loughborough campus. Events may include arts and craft workshops, live performance nights, guided walks and student society rehearsals.

We will use your photographs on our social media channels, on our website and in marketing materials produced by LU Arts. Loughborough University’s wider marketing team may use them too.

What skills and experience do I need?

You will need to have your own camera and equipment and be skilled enough to take high quality photographs in a range of environments. Experience in taking photographs at live performance events is desirable.

You should also have good communication and interpersonal skills as you will need to speak to a range of people at our events. This may include Loughborough University staff, workshop leaders, performers and audience members.

How much will I be paid?

You will be paid at the Student Ambassador rate which is currently £12.84 (this may increase from 1 August 2024). The Student Ambassador team manage payments and you will be set up on their system. In addition to the time you will spend at the event, you will be paid at least one hour extra for editing time, agreed at the time of booking.

How many hours will I work?

We will expect you to be flexible in terms of working hours. This is a casual position and there are no guaranteed hours. We have two student photographers on our team, and we make sure we share out the work between the two photographers fairly.

We try and give at least two weeks’ notice of bookings but sometimes we may contact you with a last-minute request. We don’t expect you to be available for every booking so don’t worry if you aren’t available.

Bookings are usually for evenings with some daytime and weekend work. We will expect you to share your photographs with us no later than one week after the event date, but the sooner the better.

Who can apply?

Any current Loughborough University student including undergraduate and postgraduate students (taught and research students). As most of the photography will take place on the Loughborough campus, you must be based here.

It does not matter what subject you are studying but it would be an advantage to have a demonstrable interest in the arts. If you are a postgraduate student, then your studies should be expected to continue until at least Easter 2025.

Accessibility

We want this opportunity to be accessible to all students. We welcome applications in different formats e.g. audio, if this is more appropriate for you. If you would like to discuss any accessibility issues in advance of applying, or to discuss how the opportunity can be made inclusive for you, then please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk or call 01509 222948.
