Week 1: Algebra basics
Our first week starts with some practice with numbers, then moves on to basic algebra including notation, indices, simplifying expressions, removing brackets and factorisation.
See what you can remember before looking up anything, and do not use a calculator except to check answers.
Self-evaluation
How did you get on with the questions?
You can check your answers here with the worked solutions.
HELM workbooks:
You might like to do some extra practice. Use the HELM workbooks and interactive questions below to do as much practice as you like. Use your lboro login details and enrol with key 'HELM2020' to access the interactive questions.

Did you successfully work through the HELM workbooks?
If you feel confident with this week's topic after using the workbooks, you are ready for next week.
If you need further support, the additional resources below will be able to help you.
Once you are at Loughborough, you can also see a tutor in the Mathematics Learning Support Centre.
