Equality Impact Assessment: Upcoming support sessions

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) helps the University make sure our policies, procedures and practices do what they are intended to do and are inclusive for staff, students and visitors. They also enable us to provide an audit trail that we have met our legal obligations.

EIAs allow us to look for opportunities to promote equality that may have previously been missed or could be better used, as well as negative or adverse impacts that can be removed or mitigated, where possible.

By carrying out EIAs, you are working in line with and being compliant with the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) in the Equality Act 2010 in England, Scotland, and Wales. The duty places the requirement on public authorities and institutions to take action to reduce inequalities in their area.

EDI services are in the process of updating EIA guidance for members of the Loughborough community. In the meantime, they would like to remind University staff that you must carry out an EIA whenever you are implementing new policies, procedures, practices, or projects.

To support you with understanding and acting on your responsibilities and obligations, EDI services will be hosting monthly EIA support sessions starting in September.

The first session of the series will take place on Thursday 12 September in Hazlerigg Building, room 201.1.15. The available time slots for this session are below:

  • 1pm-1.20pm
