Waste Paper Opera: Dead Cat Bounce

Radar is supporting this free event at Nottingham Contemporary, including performances by members of the Loughborough University community.

Join us in Nottingham on Thursday 25 July from 6.30pm until 8pm for a special performance of Dead Cat Bounce. This collaboration between Gary Zhexi Zhang and Waste Paper Opera explores financial alchemy and catastrophe through a baroque-style oratorio. The performance unfolds in five vignettes spanning different eras and locations, from ancient Jerusalem to future Miami.

Supported by Arts Council England and in collaboration with Radar, Arts Catalyst and Eastside Projects, the piece combines absurdity with the sacred, featuring music inspired by Jomelli’s Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah. It also features a backing choir brought together specially for this performance and compiled of Loughborough University staff, students and University Choir members.

Dead Cat Bounce is a story of unpayable debts, entangled histories and repeated jokes; the work unfolds over five interwoven vignettes of pre-emptive catastrophe. This event is free to attend and is open to the public.

More information and booking details can be found on Nottingham Contemporary’s website.
