Xu, 16, and Stojsavljevic, 15, came back from a set down but eventually lost to second seeds Tyra Caterina Grant and Iva Jovic 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.

It proved to be an incredible championship for Xu and Stojsavljevic, both of whom have benefited from being part of the Loughborough University National Tennis Academy (LUNTA).

Xu graduated from the set-up last year while Stojsavljevic continues her tennis journey on the University’s campus. 

In a tense final, Xu and Stojsavljevic battled hard but ultimately fell just short against their big-hitting American opponents.

“It’s been really good,” Stojsavljevic told colleagues at LTA. “It’s the first time we’ve played together at a Slam. We didn’t expect to get this far so it’s been good.”

Xu added: “Overall it’s been a great week. We’ve put ourselves out there on the court and had a great time. I really want to thank the crowd and our team for supporting us, it’s been a great week.”

Nathan Miller, Academy Manager at LUNTA, said: "We are immensely proud of Mimi and Mika in reaching the Wimbledon girls’ doubles final. It is a fantastic achievement both for the girls and for the Academy, and a demonstration of the continued hard work they both put in on and off the court.

“For both to continue to gain exposure in competing at the latter stages of Grand Slams is a hugely beneficial experience in preparing them for future opportunities.

“It's particularly special to see a current LUNTA player and an Academy alumna pairing up to achieve this accolade. This is testament to the positive relationships that our players create as they develop as people on their journey at the Academy."
