Opportunities for Loughborough University staff and students to get involved with culture and faith societies

Among the many societies and groups within the Loughborough community, there are many culture and faith societies that provide a space for staff and students to engage with their beliefs.

Coming to university can be an incredibly overwhelming time, especially for international students and staff. There are many communities across the University that help to support individuals that are looking to find a sense of belonging during their time at Loughborough.

The University Chaplaincy is a diverse, inclusive, and multi-faith team of chaplains and advisors who are committed to supporting the welfare of students, staff, and alumni.  We offer various activities to promote wellbeing and facilitate worship for different faiths, and support and advice to individuals, societies and the University on matters of faith and belief as requested. Chaplains are here to help you through your life, studies, and work, and can support you through different challenges including homesickness, relationship break-ups, work and study difficulties, bereavement and matters relating to faith, spirituality, and vocation. Staff based in the Chaplaincy work closely with colleagues across all the support services for students and staff and can refer on for additional support where necessary; they would be glad to hear from staff and students regardless of your beliefs, identity, or background

Many events are run throughout the year for our University community, including those run by Staff Networks and various networks under LSU for students to participate in, alongside other initiatives run by Student Services. Cultural societies often hold social and sporting events for students to get involved with, making their time at university more comfortable and providing them with a support network.

The University will be hosting the inaugural Sikh Games this year, bringing together the Sikh community from across the UK, Loughborough will welcome over 2,000 participants from 35 different regions. The Games were founded to create more opportunities for ethnic minority participation in sport, which Loughborough is proud to be championing.

For staff of faith, the Religion, Spirituality and Belief Network has recently been set up to provide an inclusive and equitable environmentfor people of all faiths, religions and beliefs. The Network is currently seeking a Co-Chair to lead on supporting, celebrating and advocating for people of differentreligions, spiritualities and beliefs. Contact EDI@lboro.ac.uk if you are interested in filling this position.

For Loughborough students, the full list of societies, including cultural and faith societies, can be found on the LSU website.
