General Assembly: A summary from 22 May 2024

Last week, the third termly General Assembly for the 2023/24 academic year was held.

The event was led by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings, who provided an update on our University Strategy and reflected on our achievements and performance for this year so far.

Professor Jennings shared progress against each of the six Core Plans and the Enabling Projects which underpin the delivery of the University Strategy. Additionally, he presented important updates about senior appointments, our response to financial challenges in the sector, and upcoming events.

He was joined by the Associate Pro-Vice Chancellors for each of our three Strategic Themes: Climate Change and Net Zero; Vibrant and Inclusive Communities; and Sport, Health and Wellbeing. The Associate Pro-Vice Chancellors shared key activities and updates for their Themes, their achievements so far, and further opportunities for staff to get involved in future projects.

Following the presentation, the Vice-Chancellor invited colleagues to ask questions. Key topics discussed included the sustainability of food production and waste on our campuses, our ambitions for the QS World University Rankings, the strategic priorities of academic recruitment, and how we support the local community.

A copy of the slides and a recording of the presentation is available through the General Assembly Teams Channel. A summary of the Q&A will be added to this channel shortly.

The next termly General Assembly will take place in November 2024. Further details will be shared in the new academic year.
