Coming soon: Have your say with the annual Staff Experience Survey

The Staff Experience Survey is an important opportunity for us to measure how satisfied you are working at the University as well as providing you with an opportunity to have your say on the things that matter most to you.

The feedback we receive will help us to focus on the things that are most important to staff and prioritise areas for improvement. The data will also be used to improve working conditions and practices and, ultimately, the employee experience we provide.

The University is in its third cycle of running the survey, and as a result of your feedback so far, a number of significant measures have been implemented by the University, including:

  • A review of the University’s pay spine is underway to address outstanding issues. This will ensure the University has a pay model fit for the future that ensures equity and fairness, market competitiveness, and alignment with the University’s goals.
  • Since May 2024, the annual leave entitlement for staff on Grades 1-5 was increased based on feedback from colleagues. This has helped to provide a more positive, productive and sustainable work environment.
  • Recognising the important role line managers play in helping colleagues to feel valued and recognised, in the last six months the University has designed and begun to implement the roles of Academic Line Managers across the Schools.
  • A new approach to Technician Career Pathways is near completion, and the Research Technical Academy is also underway, with both due to launch in December 2024.
  • 1-1 Health MOTs have been trialled since the last survey in response to the ‘Wellbeing’ theme and have been well received. The University plans to deploy these more broadly soon.
  • The EDI Service has offered both proactive and reactive support to staff in response to the impact of national and global concerns. Initiatives as part of this offering include hosting an upcoming Peace Assembly, running wellbeing sessions by qualified culturally-sensitive facilitators, and providing drop-in spaces for staff to share reflections and thoughts.

This year’s survey will be open from 4 November – 15 December.

You will receive an invitation to take part in the survey by email on Monday 4 November. The survey is being managed by an external provider calledPeople Insight, so please note your invitation will be sent from this external email address:survey-invite@peopleinsight.co.uk. Please be reassured that this is a legitimate email. Please do not forward or share your link with anyone else, otherwise, the responses you have provided may become visible to them.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and covers questions around the subjects of wellbeing, values, recognition, leadership, development, EDI, and overall job satisfaction.

As a thank you for taking part, a donation will be made to Eden Reforestation Projects for every individual who completes the survey.

More information about this year’s Staff Experience Survey, including a list of FAQs, can be found on the dedicated webpage.
