Led by Dr Oluwasola (Sola) Afolabi (ABCE) and Dr Hibbah Araba Osei-Kwasi (SSEHS), the summit will bring together leading global experts and scholars to share insights from Sub-Saharan Africa and explore solutions for addressing climate challenges.
Open to all staff and students, the week-long programme will include a cultural exhibition, interdisciplinary discussions, and talks. There will also be opportunities to learn more about the University’s world-leading research.

Each day will be structured around one of the University's three strategic themes, with topics including:
- Lunch, launch and cultural exhibition (Monday 28 October). Curated by Kerri Akiwowo, the exhibition will showcase items with origins in African heritage, identity, people and place, loaned by members of the Loughborough community.
- Sport, Health and Wellbeing (Tuesday 29 October) – exploring the role of sport as a catalyst for societal resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa and how the UK can adopt similar strategies, integrating sports into sustainability and climate action.
- Climate Change and Net Zero (Wednesday 30 October) – focusing on climate change and net-zero goals, with lessons from Sub-Saharan Africa on resilience and scalable solutions that support the UK's net-zero ambitions.
- Vibrant and Inclusive Communities (Thursday 31 October) - examining inclusive urban development for social cohesion, economic resilience, and sustainability, exploring how successful strategies from Sub-Saharan Africa can inform the UK’s urban planning.
This event will run in hybrid format, with both in-person or online attendance options available.
