East Midlands in Bloom (EMIB) is an annual competition organised by the EMIB Regional Committee and is one of the 18 regions which compromise Britain in Bloom, a campaign organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. 

This year, at the annual awards ceremony held at St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, Loughborough town were awarded a gold certificate and category winners, with an impressive 92/100 points. Judging criteria follows horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation, all in which Loughborough in Bloom scored highly.

Over the last 15 years, Loughborough University have been one the main contributors in the Loughborough in Bloom campaign, which enters East Midlands in Bloom in the small city category. 

Photographic evidence for the competition is taken all year round for Loughborough’s ‘In Bloom’ portfolio, such as the spring bulbs on University Road and the blue bells in Burleigh Wood. Kaz Setchell, Gardens Manager at Loughborough University said: “The Estates and Facilities Management gardeners put in a great effort every year into getting the campus ready for the judging days, on top of their regular maintenance regimes.” 

Loughborough in Bloom were also judged in August for the national competition ‘Britain in Bloom’ with the winners being announced in October.
