Long-term Skills

This project will identify, prioritise and deliver development opportunities to enhance staff knowledge, skills and behaviours to build individual and team performance.

Project aim

To improve skills and career development, enabling RIO to attract, support and retain agile, diverse, high-performing staff who feel valued and equipped to embrace the challenging ambitions of the University Strategy.

Scope and workstreams

To establish long-term skills development as a priority within RIO, this project focuses on three key areas:

  • Development Culture - Steering RIO towards a broader personal development culture with increased focus on learning by working and working together
  • Leadership and Management Skills - Equipping line managers and team leaders to develop their staff in new and creative ways, leveraging the breadth of development opportunities across RIO and beyond
  • Personal Skills Development - Enabling and empowering staff to invest in their personal development through smart and effective workload management

Timeline

We aim to complete this project by Summer 2025.

Progress

A World Café event was hosted to capture initial skills and development needs. Scoping and consultation also undertaken with RIO stakeholders.

A review of internal and external resources and training materials is currently underway - as are discussions around how to enhance the RIO development culture and outline good practice for staff development.
