Safer Partnerships and Trusted Research considerations can arise in a range of activities at the University – some are more obvious than others.

These case studies represent real scenarios which have occurred at UK based universities.

High performance fabrics research

A foreign government is funding interdisciplinary research between colleagues in the Schools of Design and Creative Arts and Sports and Health Sciences.

PhD Studentship Partnership

A foreign scholarship council has suggested the University partner with a technology-focussed university in their country to jointly deliver PhD studentships in the field of cyber security.

Unfunded collaborations

At a conference, one of our academics meets a professor from a university in the middle east. The professor shows a very strong interest in the research we undertake in the field of unmanned vehicles (some of which is funded by the Ministry of Defence).

Approach to an early career researcher

One of our junior researchers received an email which appeared to be from a PhD student they had met on a training course. The email asked if they would be prepared to offer some feedback on a conference poster they were preparing on an area of shared interest. Our researcher replied yes.
