Potter and Yee bring home bronze in Triathlon Mixed Team Relay
Triathletes Beth Potter and Alex Yee won a battling bronze for Great Britain after a thrilling Mixed Team Relay Final in Paris.
The Loughborough-linked duo – alongside teammates Georgia Taylor-Brown and Samuel Dickinson – were initially announced as silver medallists before a photo finish review showed American Taylor Knibb pipped Potter on the line by the smallest of margins.
Germany took gold in 1:25:39 ahead of the USA in 1:25:40 with Great Britain third. France, featuring Loughborough’s Cassandre Beaugrand, came fourth (1:26:47).
It proved to be another thrilling race across the iconic River Seine and cobbled streets of France’s capital with both Potter and Yee combining to add to their individual medals earlier in the week.
"I'm just happy…medals are very difficult to get. It's one event every four years and most people come away from the games disappointed,” Potter told BBC Sport.
"So we need to be really happy with what we have taken home…for years now this has been my one goal, it's almost like you feel a little bit down once it's all done.
"What's next? I don't know... well, I'm going to see Taylor Swift in a couple of weeks and then I'll be back racing.”
After the race, Yee said: "We did absolutely everything we can and I couldn't be prouder of these guys and the performance we put on today. [It’s] an amazing day out and an amazing day for the sport as well."
The team bronze takes Loughborough’s total medal count to 11 – three gold, two silver, six bronze.
