Announced following the news that Jess Thirlby has stepped down from her role as Vitality Roses Head Coach, Murphy will join the new-look backroom team before returning to Loughborough University to continue as Deputy Director of Sport following this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
Murphy – who is also a Loughborough alum and a member of the University’s Hall of Fame – joins the England coaching team having collected 95 caps across 10 years playing internationally for the Vitality Roses, with six years spent as senior captain.
She brings a wealth of experience across the elite game, having also contributed to the Vitality Roses programme as Technical Coach in 2021 and 2023.
Murphy has coached Loughborough Lightning from its inception and previously served as the Netball Super League side’s Head Coach.
“This is an incredible opportunity and one that I’m delighted to tackle head-on,” said Murphy.
“It’s a huge honour to work with such a talented group of players and staff. This team has an exciting future, and I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundations already in place as we head towards the Commonwealth Games.
“I’d like to thank the senior team at Loughborough Sport for allowing me to pursue this initiative.”
Louise Gear, Director of Sport at Loughborough University said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see Liv earn this fantastic opportunity with England Netball.
“Her comprehensive understanding of the elite netball landscape, alongside years of first-class coaching experience, makes her the perfect fit to take the Vitality Roses forward over the immediate future.
“As Liv prepares to step into this interim role, she continues to play a crucial leadership role with Loughborough Sport. She remains closely involved in shaping our future strategy and priorities, providing direction and oversight of our performance system.
“We wish her – and the wider England Netball team – the very best and we are all already looking forward to welcoming Liv back to campus soon.”
