Bridging Disciplines and Methods: Enhancing Political Science through Interdisciplinary Teaching...

IAS Residential Fellow Dr Rudabeh Shahid delivers a Postgraduate Research (PGR) workshop on their research, fully titled "Bridging Disciplines and Methods: Enhancing Political Science through Interdisciplinary Teaching and Dynamic Simulations" -

This two-hour PGR session is designed to showcase the power and benefits of interdisciplinary teaching in political science. Drawing on my extensive experience and unique approach to integrating various disciplines, the session aims to provide postgraduate students with practical insights and hands-on experience in applying interdisciplinary methods to political science pedagogy. The session will begin with an interactive lecture on the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, followed by looking at case studies from my own research to illustrate some teaching methods, and also highlight the use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching concepts. Finally, the focus of the session is an engaging and dynamic simulation titled "Responding to Tsunami in South Asia."

This fun and interactive simulation will immerse students in a realistic scenario where they will role-play as key political leaders and decision-makers, navigating the complexities of international crisis response and diplomacy through a multidisciplinary lens. The session will conclude with a roundtable discussion and Q&A, allowing students to reflect on their learning during this session, ask questions, and explore further applications of interdisciplinary approaches in their research. This comprehensive session aims to equip students with the skills and confidence to integrate multiple disciplines and techniques into their political science teaching, enhancing their academic and professional capabilities.
