Ilya received a BSc at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, followed by a MSc in probability at UPMC (Paris VI), France. He completed his D.Phil in 2016 in stochastic analysis at the University of Oxford. Following this, he was a postdoc at TU Berlin in 2016 and then a Junior Research Fellow at St John’s College, Oxford (2016-2020).

Since 2020, Ilya is a Reader in Probability and Stochastic Analysis and the University of Edinburgh. In 2023, he additionally became the Head of Analysis and Probability Theme in Edinburgh. He was awarded in 2023 an ERC Starting Grant and in 2024 the Rollo Davidson Prize.

During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Chevyrev is collaborating with Dr Alexey Korepanov from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
