The Role of International Collaborations in Meeting Net Zero Targets

In the build-up to COP29, this one-day seminar will explore how international partnerships can drive innovation and accelerate progress in the fight against climate change.

Hosted by Loughborough University and sponsored by The State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and TriboDENS, the event will bring together industry leaders, academic experts and government representatives to discuss effective strategies to advance Net Zero targets. 

We are delighted to welcome Mr. Elin Suleymanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom, alongside scientific, governmental, and diplomatic representatives from Azerbaijan, the host country of COP29.

The seminar will offer valuable insights into the latest green technologies and develop a pathway for future partnerships between the UK and Azerbaijan.

Amer Gaffer

Amer Gaffer

Amer is Director of the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University, developing core partnerships with SMEs, researchers, industry and policymakers to advance hydrogen sector growth including the development of hydrogen and fuel cell related industry and employment. 

Upul Wijayantha

Professor Upul Wijayantha

Professor Wijayantha has considerable expertise in low-carbon H2 technologies, electrochemical energy storage, energy materials and the circular chemical economy, having led industrial development of green H2 production in the UK that were then expanded to the US. He currently serves on two technical task groups of the International Energy Agency, and is part of the team behind HyDEX, a project aiming to accelerate innovation in H2 by supporting SMEs to develop the technologies and skills needed.

Professor Dan Parsons

Professor Daniel Parsons

Daniel Parsons is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Loughborough University. Prior to joining Loughborough, Dan served as a Professor of Process Sedimentology at the University of Hull from 2011 to 2022. He also held the position of Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, he became the founding Director of a University-wide Energy and Environment Institute (EEI), which grew under his leadership to include a multidisciplinary team of more than 80 researchers conducting impactful research on global environmental challenges. 

Kathryn North

Dr Kathryn North

Kathryn is Director of C-DICE and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Climate Change and Net Zero at Loughborough University.  She has held the positions of Head of Researcher Development at Loughborough, Head of Skills for the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) and she leads the skills programme for HyDEX, a £5m programme to develop a hydrogen economy in the midlands. 

Professor Alok Choudary

Professor Alok Choudhary

Alok Choudhary is a Professor of Supply Chain Management and the Head of Supply Chain Group at WMG, University of Warwick. His research has engaged industries from various sectors and tackled challenges related to sustainability (ESG, net-zero and circular economy), resilience and digital transformation in supply chain and logistics.
