Definition of Digital Image Correlation for Breast Kinematics
Key research areas
Breast motion, High resolution measurement,
Summary of research
The research fundamentally focuses on using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to measure breast motion. DIC is a non-contact optical technique that captures high-resolution images to track and analyse surface deformations or motions. By applying DIC, quantitative data on how the breast moves under various conditions, such as during physical activities. This information is essential for understanding the dynamic behaviour of breast tissue and can be used to improve the design and fit of support garments, like sports bras. The work contributes to advancing methods for measuring and interpreting complex breast motion in biomedical engineering and anatomical research.

Background
I grew up in Conwy, North Wales, and attended Ysgol Bryn Elian, where I developed my early interest in combining STEM and sport. After completing a BEng at Loughborough University in Sports Technology and an internship with PUMA SE (2019-2020), I started my PhD in October 2021. The degree programme and the research has allowed me to work with leading experts and has provided me with an invaluable experience. Throughout my academic career I have been passionate about sport demonstrated by my work as a Platinum Young Ambassador for Sport across Wales nationally between 2015 - 2017.
Awards and Qualifications
-
Represented Great Britian in the EUSA 2023 Handball Championships
-
BUCS Winners (Handball) between 2021 – 2023
-
Sports Wales National Young Ambassador (2015 – 2017)
-
