Following his UK studies he returned to Beijing and joined PwC as an Auditor.
Here, he discusses his career journey so far and why he chose Loughborough University to help progress in his career.
Why did you choose to study at Loughborough University?
Loughborough University has one of the biggest single-site campuses in the UK which provides excellent facilities for every aspect of student life, with plenty of open space, gardens and sports areas, interspersed with academic buildings and student accommodation.
Meanwhile, Loughborough University has a reputation for excellence in teaching and research, strong links with business and industry, and unrivalled sporting achievements.
How has Loughborough University inspired and helped you to progress in your academic career?
One year in Loughborough is the unforgotten memory in my life. The University provided an excellent and practical course for every student. All the courses built the best foundation for my future career.
The most important thing is that Loughborough University provided exceptional learning opportunities to me, such as the University often holding various kinds of academic lectures for students.
Meanwhile, my graduate courses help me to broaden my educational horizons. Furthermore, the University assigns a personal tutor for every student, and my personal tutor gave me lots of advice regarding academia and life in Loughborough.
Would there be one piece of advice that you would give to prospective students looking to study the same subject that you did?
My major is Business Analysis and Management which focused on forecasting, optimization, simulation and decision analysis to a particular area of business. Such courses will help students to increase their competitive advantage. Thus, I strongly suggest that new students should learn those courses and try to link the knowledge in books to the real business world.
Did you take part in any extracurricular activities during your studies? If so, how did this impact upon your Loughborough experience and your career?
Loughborough is world-renowned for sport and provides the best sports facilities for all students. During my academic career in Loughborough, I was interested in running and fitness. Furthermore, I was the leader of the Loughborough Running Club.
Can you tell us about your career journey so far?
After graduating from Loughborough University I joined the PwC Beijing branch as an Auditor, responsible for the auditing of the financial sector, especially in PE and VC. Meanwhile, I am the Career Mentor in Unicareer Education Company, giving some advice and direction to graduates who are looking for a job.
My advice for current students planning to pursue their career in the big four is as follows:
- Focus on relevant recruitment information of the big four on websites and LinkedIn.
- Activity participate in careers events and fairs held by Loughborough University.
- Prepare your CV and cover letter in advance and let careers staff review them.
- Make the online job application in advance and practice online test questions to ensure you can pass the company online test.
- Keep reading the economic and business news in routine life to improve your business sense.
- Prepare relevant accounting and finance exam certificates in advance, which are the most important qualifications for working in the big four.
Most important of all is to keep confident and never give up on your goal.
