It was an enormous pleasure to be able to work with Andy during my time at the Treasury and as Head of the Government Economic Service. Andy’s enthusiasm and skills in our subject, and his extraordinary ability to help people understand what the sensible thing to do, were both remarkable and extremely effective. I am sure he will continue to make great contributions in whatever he does. The GES, the subject of economics, and the effectiveness of economists in government owe a great deal to him.
