Expertise: governance, ownership, board of directors, organizational outcomes, internationalization, sustainability.

Vidya is an organizational researcher who works in the interface of governance, leadership and organizational outcomes such as internationalization, innovation and sustainability. She has published her work in highly ranked journals in management research including Journal of World Business, International Business Review, Journal of International Management, R&D Management and Journal of Business Research.

Vidya is currently a Senior Lecturer in International Business in the International Business, Strategy and Innovation group, and has been a part of Loughborough Business School since 2018. She holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, and prior to that, she was engaged in technical roles for over five years in some of the leading IT service firms of India. 

In Loughborough, she teaches modules related to strategy and international business at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. She has won Dean’s Awards and student choice awards for her teaching. Currently, she is the Programme Leader of the MSc International Business programme and previously held the Programme Leader role for the BSc Management programme.

Vidya’s research broadly deals with governance, leadership and organizational outcomes such as internationalization, innovation and sustainability.

The specific themes within her research currently are:

  1. Impact of ownership structure (institutional, family, business group and state ownership) on firm level strategies such as internationalization, innovation and sustainability;
  2. Emerging market multinationals and their internationalization, sustainability and growth strategies;
  3. Impact of ownership structure and board composition of non-traditional ‘corporates’ such as universities and sports clubs, on their financial and social outcomes.

She also supervises three PhD students, who work in areas related to corporate governance in Sub-Saharan Africa, innovation and leadership and conflict management in family firms.

Vidya has presented her work in several world-renowned conferences such as the Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, British Academy of Management and Pan IIM World Management Conference.

Vidya is an Associate Editor for IIM Kozhikode Society & Management Review, published by Sage Journals. She is a member of the editorial boards for Journal of International Management, European Management Journal and Cross Cultural and Strategic Management Journal and regularly reviews papers for several leading journals. She is member of the board of trustees (with a focus on research and campaigns) of Citizen Advice Charnwood, an independent charity which provides advisory support to enable individuals navigate a multitude of financial and social challenges. 

Vidya is also a co-investigator in the project titled 'Reversing the gear: Corporate governance determinants of reverse innovation in the Indian pharmaceutical industry', which received BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants funding in 2023.
