Dr Yi Wang is Professor of Industrial Design, School of Art and Design, Xi’an University of Technology, and as a former Vice-Dean of the School. She also is Research Director of environmental art and design at the School of New Media and Arts, Xi’an Kedagaoxin University. She is the National and Provincial Science and Technology project’s evaluator in the Peoples Republic of China.
Professor Wang has been on a Year-long sabbatical with the School (2023-2024) and been involved in collaborative research projects and publications of comparisons of different societies and cultures, to provide quantitative as well as qualitative evidence on which to better understand current values of individuals within the context of a complex adaptive system (society, culture, and heritage).
In the last four years Professor Wang has published over 20 Journal and conference articles across topics associated with design. Her topic areas span marketing, consumer and assistive products and services, and Engineering systems, and interactive design. she has been developing design programmes and expanding her international network related to design methods, semiotics, and consumer behaviour. She has built capacity within her School to enable quantitative and qualitative measurement of responses from Consumers towards given product designs.

Prof Wang is actively involved in regional Design events and supports PhD supervisors in their role with students. She has also been a visiting tutor at SASD, University of Bridgeport, USA. Her former role as Vice-Dean of School enabled Professor Wang to raise awareness of Xi’an University and expand her network of researchers.
Professor Wang has received over 16 educational and design awards in the last ten years, including a Red Dot Award in 2018.
Professor Wang and her team also provide consultant advice to major companies and organisations in China, such as Siemens, Bosch Rexroth, Shaanxibeiren, and Sanner Group.
Prof Wang currently supervises five PhD students.
