Loughborough Students awarded the competitive Engineering Leaders Scholarship 2024

Thomas and Grace

Two exemplary students from the Schools of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering and Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering have been awarded the competitive Engineering Leaders Scholarship (ELS) 2024 that saw only 38 awarded from over 250 eligible applicants. This recognition underscores their potential to become leadership role models for the next generation of engineers.

The ELS programme, established by the Royal Academy of Engineering, is designed to support undergraduates in UK Higher Education Institutions who display the potential to become leaders and innovators in engineering and who want to become leadership role models for the next generation of engineers.

Thomas Mgbor, Product Design Engineering student, comments:

I'd like to thank everyone for their support with my application, most notably Prof Peter Kinnell and Anesh Mistry.

Grace Newman, Automotive Engineering student, shares her excitement:

I'm really excited to be a recipient of the RAE Engineering Leaders scholarship! The support it will provide in terms of access to opportunities, mentoring, and academy events I'm sure will enable me to make great steps in my personal development as I continue to pursue my career in motorsport engineering. I am very grateful to have been awarded this amazing scholarship.

Upon receiving the scholarship, Thomas and Grace will benefit from:

  • £5000 towards career-related personal development activities over three years.
  • Dedicated training and networking events
  • Support from an Academy Mentor
  • Invitations to exclusive Academy events and opportunities
  • Access to an alumni community of over 300 engineers

On behalf of both our Schools, we would like to congratulate Thomas and Grace and wish them the best of luck for their exciting futures!
