Aftrak is a groundbreaking initiative that combines solar microgrids and tailored tractors to empower smallholder farmers across Africa. It aims to significantly increase crop yields and smallholder incomes while providing access to clean, green electricity in rural communities.

Our aim

Aftrak tractor with solar panels
Providing a scalable, self-sustaining economy.

Aftrak is dedicated to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity access across Africa - with a focus on empowering smallholder farmers and fostering economic growth in the region.

Our innovative approach aspires to transform the African energy landscape and contribute to a brighter future for the continent.

The project has been designed to address several of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals - principally around sustainable energy (SDG7), but also those tackling poverty, hunger, economic growth, gender inequality, education and climate action (SDG 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 13).

By significantly lowering the physical barriers to the adoption of Deep Bed Farming, Aftrak offers the potential for a three time increase in crop yield, a 12 time increase in income and 15-45% increase in food security.

Our technology

Our innovative approach combines the implementation of solar microgrids with the deployment of Aftrak tractors - specifically designed for the African market.

The system uses a 15kW solar array and battery system to power micro-electric tractors for Deep Bed Farming which has been shown to increase smallholder revenue by up to 12 times.

This revenue can then be used to perpetually purchase domestic energy from the solar array, creating a self-sustaining model for decentralised energy access.
