Dr Cong Sun

PhD

  • Research Associate in Machine Vision and Digital Perception

Background

Dr Cong Sun obtained his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK, in 2016. Then he immediately started his PhD in Advanced Digital Signal Processing, which was awarded in 2021. He then joined the Intelligent Vehicle Labs in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2021 as a Research Associate.

Cong joined the Intelligent Automation Centre in Loughborough University as a Research Associate in July 2023.

Dr Sun’s research interests include rule-based and knowledge-based image processing, point cloud processing and Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping (SLAM). His expertise also lies in the development of perception algorithms on data collected by a camera, a LiDAR or a multi-modal configuration. He is also interested in leveraging simulators for data synthesisation and training. He is keen to deliver breakthroughs in automation and robotics for industrial applications and focuses on enabling organisations to remove traditional barriers that limit the uptake and benefits of automation, by enabling people to work closely and effectively with automation and robots, to promote multi-disciplinary working, bringing together expertise from robotics, engineering, computer science, and design. He works very closely with a wide range of industrial collaborators to ensure his research to deliver has the greatest opportunity for real-world impact.
