Why I Chose Loughborough University
Although Loughborough was a clearing choice for me, I’ve really enjoyed the mix of academic opportunities and sports facilities. The campus has everything in one place, which made settling in much easier from the start. Accommodation didn’t influence my choice, but I’m glad I ended up in halls. It has been a great experience.
Returning to Halls and Making Friends
Living in Rutherford gave me the perfect chance to branch out. Since it’s a small hall, I got to know everyone, and I never felt alone. I could just knock on a friend’s door and spend the evening giggling together. Being on campus made it easier to settle in and meet people, as everyone is going through the same first-year experience.
Life on Campus and Catered Meals
Having food provided takes a huge load off, especially during exam season when the last thing you want to worry about is cooking or cleaning. I loved the sandwich bar, coffee machine, and salad bar, with so many options and combinations. The social side of the canteen was just as valuable; it’s where friends meet and memories are made.
Favourite Memories
Some of my favourite moments were sunny days when I could hear chatter outside my room, see different groups mingling, and join in playing football or just hanging out. There’s a real sense of Rutherford pride, hall sportsmanship, banter with friends, and the feeling of being part of a community. Even though I didn’t need extra support, it was reassuring to know the warden, cleaning, and security teams were always ready to help.
Advice for New Students
Moving into halls can feel daunting, especially as an international student, but everyone is nervous at first. Don’t be afraid to knock on a door and say hello; you’ll quickly find your place. My advice is to enjoy the good moments and make the most of your time. The best thing about living in halls is always having friends nearby and sharing experiences that you’ll remember forever.
