Making a payment from outside the UK

The University’s student payment portal offers a single payment journey for all student payments from both within the UK, and around the world.

All international payments are processed by Flywire, and you can find more information about the benefits of this to students and payers on our payment information page.

This page provides a step-by-step guide to making a payment from outside the UK through the University’s online portal. Do note that the screenshots show the example of a payment being made from India by bank transfer and the screens you see will vary slightly depending on the country you are paying from and the options you select.

International payers can also access around the clock multilingual support can be accessed via Flywire Help Centre or Local Support Numbers at any time during the process.

Step by step guide

Step 1

To make a payment for a tuition deposit, tuition fees or accommodation fees, you need to log onto the University’s online portal by entering your details.

Step 2

Enter the amount (in GBP) you want to pay towards each fee type.

You can select and pay multiple fee types in the same transaction if desired.

Step 3

Review and confirm the payment summary and then click continue.

Step 4

Enter the payer details. If a parent/sponsor is making the payment for you, enter their details here. If you are making the payment yourself, enter your details here.

It is important that you select the correct county at this stage, as this determines the payment options you are provided with and the currencies you can pay in (note any payment under £50 can only be paid in GBP by credit or debit card).

International students with addresses and bank accounts in both the UK and their home country and should enter the address registered with the bank account or card they are intending to pay with. For example, if you are paying from an account with a bank in your home country, you should enter your home country address.

Step 5

Select how you would like to pay from the payment methods shown.

The amounts shown are all-inclusive to allow easy comparison of the total amount payable under each option.

The Best Price Guarantee means that if you select bank transfer in your local currency and find a better exchange rate at your bank within 2 hours Flywire will match it

If you have already converted your funds and wish to pay in GBP, select the ‘Bank transfer in GBP’ which can be found under “I want to make a payment in another currency”.

Please note that there are a very small number of countries that Flywire is unable to process payments from. Where this is the case you will be offered the option of making a payment in GBP by either VISA or Mastercard and the following steps will not apply. If you are unable to pay by this method, then please contact receipt.enquiries@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk for assistance.

Step 6

After you have selected your payment method you may be asked to provide additional information depending on the requirements of the country you are sending money from.

For example:

  • If you are paying from India you will be asked to provide payer information including your PAN Number and Source of Funds, and to complete LRS and TSC declarations.
  • Payers from China will be asked to provide their full name as it appears on their National Identity Card and Chinese National ID and to upload the students University Offer Letter or Statement to meet local currency regulations.

Step 7

You will then be provided with instructions to complete your payment.

For card payments you will need to enter your card details, or for bank transfers you will be given details of how to make your transfer, and will be able to download a copy to take to your bank if required. Please ensure you quote your unique payment reference beginning with LBW on your transfer.

Step 8

Payment instructions can also be downloaded on the next page by selecting the green box. A link will be provided in the email you receive acknowledging the payment has been initiated.

Once your funds reach Flywire, the payment is fully trackable, and you will be able to see when your payment is delivered to the University. Once your payment is complete you will be able to access a receipt.

What happens if I need a refund?

In the event a refund is required and approved by the University, funds will be returned via Flywire to the account used to make the original payment. Like the original payment, the refund would be fully trackable using Flywire and can be back in your account within 5 working days.
