Spot Salary Increment

A consolidated reward for staff on Grade 9

Eligibility

All staff in grade 9

Timeframe

This can happen once a year and nominations should be received by May 31.

What do you get?

Awarded once a year, where an individual on a spot salary is performing well in all key areas of their role and in addition have demonstrated exceptional performance, significantly above the normal expectations of their role. This is consolidated which means it becomes part of salary. This award is applied on a pro-rate basis and paid through the university's payroll. It is subject to tax and NICs.

Criteria

Recommendations should demonstrate examples of sustained excellent over the course of a year, which has positive impact and wider contribution to the university and is above the normal expectations for the role. The employee should also have consistently demonstrated desirable behaviours aligned to university values.

Who nominates?

Nominations come from Heads of Schools or Services.

Authorisation

Recommendations are considered by the Salary Review Group (SRG) and authorised by the Remuneration Committee (REMCOM).

Nominations made by 31 May will usually be paid in August.

Any recommendation which differs from the norms set out above or where the panel cannot reach a consensus will be referred to the Director of HR.

Recording and Processing

Awards will be recorded on iTrent and processed by HR Services. 

Communication

Successful colleagues will receive a letter from the Vice Chancellor.
