Needlestick injury

In the event of a needlestick injury or blood splash to the eye 

Dispose of the sharp safely using the sharps disposal pack provided.

Immediate first aid

Needlestick injury

• Squeeze the site to encourage bleeding
• Do not suck the wound
• Wash the area with soap and water
• Cover with a dressing if required

Splash to the eye - irrigate the eye as soon as possible using the solution in the eye wash station

Next steps

• Inform your manager
• Contact Occupational Health immediately for advice (if the incident is mon-fri 8-4pm please call 01509 222850) outside of these hours please attend A&E. (Leicester Royal Infirmary)
• Complete an accident form
