Who this guidance covers

This guidance is for all student- and doctoral researcher-facing staff.

The University provides support to disabled students and doctoral researchers in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act 2010 defines a disability as a long-term physical or mental health condition — which has lasted, or is likely to last, 12 months or more — and which has a substantial and adverse effect on someone’s ability to undertake normal day-to-day activities. For students and doctoral researchers, their normal day-to-day activities include studying. This guidance also covers the University’s support for students and doctoral researchers with significant health issues, injuries, and those facing challenging personal circumstances.
