Sport Opportunities Fund

The Opportunities Fund is designed to help students cover some of the costs involved in taking part in all strands of sport at Loughborough. You can apply for support with AU Club memberships, equipment, kit, and sports fees for Social Sport and Rec Sport. Please read the details below carefully before applying. The opportunities fund will re-open in Semester 2 on 23 January 2026

Things you need to know

  • 1 x AU Club Membership
  • Specialist sports equipment
  • IMS kit, such as playing shirts
  • Social Sport or My Learn To entry fees
  • Core club trips not covered by the membership fee (exc. Social activity)
  • Reimbursement of an AU membership, equipment or entry fees already purchased
  • Loughborough Sport Membership
  • Coaching of Officiating courses

Funding allocation

  • The amount granted depends on the number of applications received.
  • You may not receive the full amount requested.
  • Funding is for the 2025/26 academic year only. Receiving support this year does not guarantee funding in future years.

Application process and deadlines

If applying for an AU Club Membership:

  • Do not purchase your membership until you’ve received a decision. Purchases will not be reimbursed.
  • Clubs with membership limits have reserved spaces for Opportunities Fund applicants.
  • If successful, you will be given credit on your Loughborough Sport account which must only be used for the membership you applied for.
  • Misuse of credit (e.g. purchasing other products) will result in a charge to your account.
  • The deadline to purchase membership will be Monday 23 February.

If applying for equipment, competition costs, or trips:

  • If successful, you will receive details in your grant email about how to make the purchase.

Window two closes: Sunday 8 February at 5pm. Decision notification by: Friday 13 February.

Data and storage

  • Applications and the data provided within them will be stored for the 2025/26 academic year only. Your data will not be shared outside of Loughborough Sport. This application is seperate to the LU bursary.
  • If more funding becomes available, your application may be reconsidered.
  • All data will be deleted at the end of the academic year.

Appeals and complaints

  • Funding decisions are made by a joint panel and are final.
  • If you wish to make a complaint, you must follow the Student Complaints Procedures in Ordinance XXXVIII (available on the University website).
