Teacher Education at Loughborough

Congratulations on securing a place at Loughborough University. We know that you will have worked incredibly hard to meet the entry requirements for the PGCE course.

By joining the PGCE programme at Loughborough University, you will receive practical and professional training for teaching in secondary schools. This course is rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and collaboratively designed and delivered with schools across several local authorities.

You will benefit from the University’s 87 years of experience in teacher training and be supported by school-based teacher training specialists. Our teaching includes contributions from world-leading academics in physical education, sport pedagogy and mathematics. These thought-leaders are recognised by Ofsted for their contributions to leadership in teaching and teacher education.

We’re excited to welcome you and look forward to helping you develop the skills needed to excel in the classroom and make a positive difference to future generations of school children.

Venue and parking

The induction day on Monday 8 September will begin at 9.15am in the University Stadium. If you are driving onto campus, please make yourself familiar with the parking policy and charges. The best places to park are at the Holywell Fitness Centre, which is on Oakwood Drive, Loughborough LE11 3QF. (As you look at the Fitness Centre, there is a cut through on the right which takes you to the Stadium entrance on foot), or Car Park 1.

Documents check

DBS check

By the induction day, the vast majority of you will have received your enhanced DBS certificate. You do not need to bring this with you on the day of your induction unless you have been asked specifically to do so. Please keep the certificate safe as you will be expected to provide it for school-based activities.

Qualifications check

If you didn’t provide them on the day of your interview, you will need to bring your original qualification certificates with you to your induction (GCSE Maths, GSCE English, A-level Maths (if you are taking the Maths PGCE), and your undergraduate degree certificate.) Please note - we cannot accept photocopies of certificates, or statements of results.

Primary School Experience

Please be reminded that you should have arranged a 4 day primary school experience to undertake during week 5 of the PGCE course. This must run Monday to Thursday in the week commencing 6 October. This experience is a critical component of the course. Please use the ‘Letter to Headteacher of Primary School 2025-26’ template which was emailed to you, when arranging your experience. Please ensure you have also completed the Primary Headteacher Details form.

Please note - Friday 10 October will be reserved for independent study time, you do not need to be in University for this day.

Personal Academic Tutor meetings

Your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) will be allocated to you at the start of the course. You will receive a separate email from your PAT to arrange your first meeting.

Personal and professional conduct

Keeping children and young people safe is essential and we take safeguarding very seriously. All applicants are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and other vetting checks.

In addition, as prospective trainees and teachers, we strongly advise you to review your online presence, carefully consider what you share publicly online, and remove any content which may raise questions about your professionalism and/or suitability for teaching. In accordance with the Teachers’ Standards, teachers are expected ‘to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct and they must ‘uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.’ Some online content may be seen or interpreted to contravene these standards, which may have unfortunate consequences for the individual involved. For example, most schools now undertake social media checks and if any incidents or issues come to light, this could lead to a school refusing to host or employ a trainee or teacher respectively.
