Meet Dr Paul Sanderson
Dr Paul Sanderson is the postgraduate Programme Leader for Exercise Rehabilitation.
This programme will develop your fundamental knowledge, understanding and skills across all aspects of rehabilitation sciences in an exercise context, as well as having the opportunity to specialise in musculoskeletal rehabilitation or rehabilitation for non-communicable (chronic) diseases.
Teaching is delivered by research-active academics, like Paul, who are driving forward understanding of the skills and techniques required to excel within the sector.
Paul’s principal research interests lie in the field of injury prevention and conditioning across the 'ability' spectrum. His rehabilitation practice extends across exercise and sport rehabilitation.
In his time in the army Paul was the lead exercise rehabilitation instructor across the Armed Services and served at the internationally renowned Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC).
Improving rehabilitation outcomes
Loughborough University is known for excellence in sport, research, and academics. I wanted to bring these strengths together to enhance the practical and theoretical knowledge of exercise rehabilitation professionals, helping improve recovery outcomes after surgery, injury, and musculoskeletal disorders.
I am personally very excited about the programme as I have observed the benefits of exercise rehabilitation and how the use of exercise can be a 'force for good', helping to restore function, reduce the impact of disease and improve quality of life.
Impact of research on your learning
"It is the opportunity to benefit from world-leading research, which makes this programme so exciting. Loughborough is known for its outstanding student experience and excellent facilities.
