The MSc in Engineering Management prepares graduates for roles in the management of engineering projects within data driven environments. The industrial facing nature of the programme is suited for students who wish to complement their technical knowledge with business expertise.

The programme delivers a core base of modules to equip students with an understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship; industrial digital technologies; principles of project management; project finance and sustainable product design. The suite of modules within the programme have been developed in collaboration with industry to satisfy industrial demand.

During the programme you will develop research and analytical skills to assist in the understanding of complex business problems. In addition, you will gain insight into the methodologies for problem solving and informed decision-making skills. 

The elective modules within the programme allow you to tailor deeper technical understanding within pathways of sustainability and digitalisation. A key focus of the MSc in Engineering Management is the development of the understanding of digital requirements to enhance productivity with new business models applied within national and international markets.

Professional recognition

The teaching and research of this degree programme are shaped by industry and partner feedback, which ensures that our graduates are well prepared for the ever-changing global jobs market. We shall be seeking accreditation for this programme from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) at the soonest opportunity. Accredited courses provide a fast-track to full chartered status and are often looked upon favourably by employers by improving career prospects. The MSc is designed to fulfil the further learning requirements of the Engineering Council's AHEP4 standard.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities in the top 250 Shanghai rankings will be considered if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 75%-84%.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are 251-500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 80%-87%.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are above 500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered as follows:

  • School of Business and Economics: not considered
  • All other programmes if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 80%-87%.
