Our interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to studying politics, history and international relations means we are widely recognised within our fields. Our work covers many of the big political, international and historiographical challenges of the world today, and our partnerships with policymakers globally aid our research in providing meaningful impact.

Our research covers a broad variety of theory and practice. We have four areas of research strengths, including war, peace and security, engaged political theory, and history of political culture, as well as a number of research centres and groups.

War, Peace and Security

We pioneer research that questions and expands understandings of war, peace, and security in the 21st century. We work with policymakers, as well as parliamentary and civil society actors globally to offer significant contributions to issues such as climate change, peace and conflict, and the nurturing of inclusive, resilient communities.

Engaged Political Theory

Political thinking can help generate real-world change. Our work surrounding engaged political theory and philosophy includes producing research that is practical, applicable and theoretically rich so it has the power to combat today's most pressing political challenges.

History of Political Culture

Our historiographical research is particularly strong when it comes to the history of political culture. It is engaged with contemporary debates and is used by both academic and wider public audiences in every part of the world.
