Antonia Hudson

Personal Trainer

My degree has always been relevant to my job however I know many people who's degree and skills learnt are transferable but not necessarily directly relatable.

The transferable skills (as time management, teamwork, independence, communication skills etc.) learnt just from spending 3 years at university are invaluable.

Post 16 Education: A Level Biology, P.E, Geography

Higher Education: BSc Sport and Exercise Science; PGCE Secondary Physical Education

Sport, health and exercise science covers a huge range of sporting disciplines and areas. Heath and wellbeing, coaching, research, injury prevention/medicine, psychology, biomechanics sociology, physiology I could go on.....something for everyone.

Why did you choose to study Sport and Exercise Science?

I wanted to pursue sports science because I genuinely enjoy everything sport related!

I wanted to study a subject that was broad enough for many potential career options, although at the time I did not think teaching would be one of them.

Antonia’s advice

Do not feel pressured by peers or parents to take particular subjects because they feel it is best for you. It is important to do subjects you want to do and that you enjoy learning about. Makes it 10 times easier when it comes to revising and exams.

Antonia’s experience as a student

Hands down I had the best 3 years at Loughborough University.

I was studying a subject I was really passionate about (and it was the top uni for sports science in the country!), I was involved in the Athletic Union Lacrosse club and held coaching responsibilities there and most importantly I created many lifelong friendships and learnt a lot of life lessons too.

Antonia’s Career

I was a PE teacher for 3 years in the UK before moving to Australia to start my own personal training business.

Placement Year

Students have the option to undertake a placement year as part of their degree, so that their time at Loughborough consists of three years’ full-time academic study and one year of employment in industry. The placement year occupies the whole of the third year and normally commences between July and September, lasting 45 weeks. Completing a placement is a great way to put your learning into context, improve your interpersonal skills, gain invaluable experience in the workplace, boost your employability and 'test-drive' a career to find out if a job is right for you.

Loughborough University offers undergraduate degrees in:

Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education / Sport and Exercise Science / Sport Management / Sport and Exercise Psychology / Psychology / Sport Technology

Please note: Degrees and their titles change over time. Some graduates may have studied degrees that have evolved and changed in response to changes in demand from employers.
