Visit day travel expenses

If you have been invited to Loughborough for an interview or visit day, then you could be eligible for a contribution of up to £70 towards your travel expenses to the event.

Visit days are incredibly important for you to attend. They provide the opportunity to talk to our staff and students, get a feel for the course you could be studying and discover more about student life on campus.

We want to ensure that all applicants have the opportunity to visit their university choices, allowing them to make an informed decision about their study options and not be restricted by travel costs.

Eligible students can claim for a contribution of up to £70 towards the cost of travelling to Loughborough. Amounts will be based on mileage from your home postcode (the address on your UCAS application) to our campus, or the cost of using public transport. For your claim to be successfully processed you must ensure that you confirm your attendance on the day by visiting one of our registration desks.

Who is eligible to apply for the funding contribution?

Eligible applicants will be contacted by email directly to inform them that they are eligible to make a claim.

How to claim

To make your claim you must supply the following:

  • A completed claim form (download below - please fill in the bits highlighted yellow)
  • A photocopy/photograph of your travel ticket (if travelled by train/coach) which details the amount paid. If you have travelled by car the contribution you receive will be based on the distance travelled.
  • Applicants should attend the full event and be registered as attended on the day to claim.

All documents should be emailed to travelfund@lboro.ac.uk no later than Friday 19 June 2026. Unfortunately we are not able to process any forms submitted after that date. If you have already attended an event, you can still submit a claim by following the same process.

Sharing your feedback is a great way for us to help to improve our services. Please submit feedback on the travel fund to help us to support future applicants, thank you.

FAQs

When will I receive my contribution?

Funds will be paid by BACS into the account specified on the form and can take up to two months to be processed. We will not be able to pay cash on the day.

What happens if I submit a claim and can’t attend?

Firstly, please contact travelfund@lboro.ac.uk and let us know.

If you are not able to attend the event, we will unfortunately be unable to pay the contribution. Students must be registered as attended on the system to enable us to process the payment, so please ensure that you mark yourself as attended on the day.

If you are in a position to book for another date and are then able to attend, please do let us know which date you have transferred to and we will still honour the claim once you have registered attendance on the alternative day.

What if I have already attended?

If you have already attended one of these events, you can still submit a claim in exactly the same way no later than Friday 19 June 2026. If you no longer have a copy of you travel receipt, we will work out an amount based on the car mileage structure from your home address.

How much will I get?

The maximum amount on offer is £70 per student. Those who travel by train/coach will need to supply a photocopy or photograph of their travel receipt (we'd recommend using your railcard for a discounted rate if you have one), and those who have travelled by car will be funded £0.45 per mile up to the value of £70.

How can I get to Loughborough?

Whether you are travelling by car or public transport, Loughborough is a really easy place to get to.

If you are travelling by train and have a railcard, we'd recommend using this when booking your tickets to get a discounted price.
