Our Computer Science and Cyber Security BSc (Hons) degree is informed by industry and will provide you with a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of computing. In addition to the academic content of our degree, emphasis is placed on the development of your personal, managerial and presentation skills.
You will build a strong foundation in computing while developing specialist expertise in cyber security and digital resilience. The course combines core topics such as programming, systems architecture, and software engineering with advanced coverage of secure system design, ethical hacking, digital forensics and risk analysis. Emphasis is placed on applying theory to real-world problems, preparing you to identify and defend against threats in a fast-changing digital landscape. Alongside technical learning, you’ll also develop vital professional and transferable skills through team-based projects, optional placements and opportunities to engage with industry and policy.
You will also have access to a wide range of learning resources and facilities covering all areas of computing.
All of our Computer Science courses offer the option of a professional placement. Our strong industry links have enabled students to gain experience at companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Sony and Samsung.
All our degrees are guided by our Industrial Liaison Committee, which includes representatives from leading UK and international companies. The committee provides input on the curriculum, helping ensure that the course content remains relevant, current and aligned with industry needs.
