Compulsory modules
Global Business Dynamics and Management of the Human Resource
The aim of the module is for students to gain comprehensive understanding of the complexities and dynamics of global business environments, and the impact of globalisation on business practices including Human Resource Management strategies for global businesses.
The module will additionally focus on the strategic and operational aspects of managing human resources in a global context.
Students will explore key concepts such as international trade, cross-cultural management, global supply chain dynamics, and the impact of globalisation on business practices. Additionally, the module will evaluate different human resource management strategies, including talent acquisition, development, and retention, as well as the challenges of managing a diverse workforce in a global, connected world.
Manufacturing Process Technology
To gain an understanding of:
- The engineering principles that underpin the more common manufacturing processes.
- Processes and applications of different manufacturing processes.
- Computer numerical control and other computer controlled machines.
- Additive Manufacturing processes and applications.
Digital Manufacturing and Discrete Event Simulation
The aim of the module is for students to gain an understanding of the emerging trends in digitalisation in manufacturing systems and its main core technologies, including Industry 4.0, Smart Factories, Virtual Engineering and Discrete Event Simulation.
Engineering and Management Modelling
The aims of this module are to develop an understanding of how engineering science and management science are supported by mathematical and computational techniques in the modelling and simulation of selected real-world systems and problems.
Manufacturing Design
The aim of this module is for students to gain an experience of the application of design principles, as studied in Part A, to the solution of a manufacturing engineering problem in a group environment.
Manufacturing Technology
The aim of the module is for students to gain a basic understanding of various aspects of manufacturing technology i.e. metal cutting technology, methods of measurement (metrology) and electronics manufacturing processes.
Statistics
The aim of this module is to introduce statistical approaches that are important in engineering design and production.
Manufacturing Planning and Control
The aims of the module are for students to gain an understanding of manufacturing operations and production planning and control, and to gain a knowledge of the common techniques applied in these contexts.
Competitive Engineering Strategy and Solutions
More information to follow.
Software Engineering
The aim of the module is for students to develop introductory understanding and practice in the design and implementation of engineering related software.
