Semester 1 & 2
Compulsory
Integrating Studies
The aim of this module is for students to develop the engineering, management and communications skills acquired throughout the taught programme.
Application of Product Design
The aim of this module is for student design teams to research, design, make and test a new product, applying principles of product design engineering as studied in other modules.
Semester 1
Compulsory
Engineering Science 2
The aim of the module is to develop an understanding of the fundamental elements of engineering science in the areas of statics, dynamics and fluid mechanics.
Engineering and Management Modelling
The aims of this module are to develop an understanding of how engineering science and management science are supported by mathematical and computational techniques in the modelling and simulation of selected real-world systems and problems.
Industrial Design
The aim of this module is for students to develop aesthetic, graphic and ergonomic techniques as tools to be applied to the design of engineering and consumer products.
Manufacturing Technology
The aim of the module is for students to gain a basic understanding of various aspects of manufacturing technology i.e. metal cutting technology, methods of measurement (metrology) and electronics manufacturing processes.
Semester 2
Compulsory
Statistics
The aim of this module is to introduce statistical approaches that are important in engineering design and production.
Manufacturing Management
The aims of this module are to introduce the fundamental principles of management and the functions of a manufacturing business.
Software Engineering
The aim of the module is for students to develop introductory understanding and practice in the design and implementation of engineering related software.
Design of Machine Elements
The aim of this module is to provide concepts, knowledge and techniques necessary to design functional mechanical systems appropriate for a range of design contexts, including the analysis thereof.
